My Poshmark experience started in 2016 and my focus is primarily plus size clothing, both as a buyer and a seller.
Plus Size Posher
I can honestly say Poshmark has been a game-changer for my closet and my lifestyle! Not only does it give me access to brands and styles that I can’t readily find in brick-and-mortar stores near me, but it also helps me get rid of pieces from my wardrobe that I don’t wear anymore… and make a few bucks in the process!
Now let me preface this with the disclaimer that I am absolutely not a fashionista, nor do I swoon over designer names. In fact, I’m a huge cheapskate that refuses to pay MSRP for anything. Ever.
The beauty of Poshmark, for me, lies in the fact that I can sell clothing, accessories, makeup, etc., and let the profits rack up in my account. Then, when I’m in the mood to shop, this “savings account” can be applied to my purchases.
Shopping this way that feels more like a trade / barter system. And if I only spend within the means of what’s available in my account, there’s no bank, no debt, no credit cards involved at all. That makes the transactions even sweeter.
Finding Deals & Bundling
Some sellers are incredibly generous with prices, which is why I always check Poshmark first if I’m looking for a specific brand or item.
As a plus size shopper, I prefer to shop from other plus size closets. Chances are, if I find one thing I like, we’ll probably share similar tastes and body shape, so I know it’s worth my time to check out what else they have.
Many sellers offer bundle discounts, so if I find one thing I’m interested in, I always take the extra time to browse the rest of a closet and bundle up. This strategy makes the Priority flat rate shipping cost a little easier to swallow, too.
At this point, about 6 years into using it, I’d say about half of my closet has come from using Poshmark.
For example, I basically live in Crocs flip flops 99% of the time. The MSRPs on the models I like range from $25 to $45. On Poshmark, I will typically pay $15 or less per pair, and that’s NWT (new with tags) or NWOT (new without tags).
Same goes for my husband, who puts tons of mileage on Crocs sneaker styles for work. His preferred models are MSRP $45 to $60. I snatch up his style on Poshmark for, on average, less than $20. Again, that is new condition. It’s mind-blowing. Check these out:
Torrid brand, for another example, is stupidly expensive with MSRP. I flat refuse to pay full price on anything Torrid. However, I can consistently find very reasonable prices on NWT, NWOT, and even like-new condition plus size clothes from Torrid on Poshmark.
Likewise, Torrid clothing typically keeps a decent resale value. I can shop online confidently, even without being able to physically try things on before purchase, because if I don’t like it, for whatever reason, I know I can just “re-Posh” it.
