Late November in the South and we’re still in the high 70’s! When it feels like summer but needs to look like fall, I go for layers with thin, comfortable fabrics. This Torrid plus size OOTD features my new favorite skirt – the black ruffle maxi.

Black Ruffle Torrid Maxi Skirt
Now that my shapewear game is strong (thanks to Yitty shorts like these), I’ve been digging maxi skirts this fall. It’s been a few months since I snagged this Maxi Challis Hi-Low Skirt from Torrid, and I finally found an occasion to wear it over the weekend: our little town’s annual downtown Christmas parade.

I found this skirt while searching for a basic black maxi… but the wrap style with ruffle hem really elevates it above just basic. My first thought was, “whoa, flamenco dancer!” I was skeptical as to whether or not I could comfortably pull it off.
But let me tell you, the lightweight “challis” fabric of this Torrid maxi skirt is *swoon*. It’s so thin, there’s no worries about getting too warm (even if you’re wearing shorts underneath it like I do). Yet it’s completely opaque, no see-thru worries.
This material, which is 100% rayon, is also super flowy. The movement is great when you’re walking, and the slightest breeze flutters the ruffles in such a pretty way.
While this Torrid maxi skirt is currently sold out online, I do have an extra available for sale in my Poshmark closet.
Simple Cami & Denim Jacket
Torrid Foxy Cami’s are a staple of my closet, and they work beautifully with the high-waist of the maxi skirt. The material is soft, stretchy, and stays in place. I swear I wear some version of the Foxy Cami nearly every day. This particular cami is a perfect plum shade for fall.
Foxy Cami’s are fantastic all year round, too. Using one as the base layer means I can slip out of the jacket and cool down at any time. Temperature control is super important if you’re a fat girl living in the South!
This badass distressed jean jacket is from Celebrity Pink brand and I bought it at Walmart. I’m wearing a XXXL and it fits just about perfectly (with an intentional oversized boxy look) on my 22/24 top.
I am a total sucker for 80’s style acid washed denim. Add some all-over distressing and I’m in love. Peep my cute little fall-themed LOTR enamel pin, too!
I paired this outfit with white strappy flat sandals, a boho-inspired blush pink crossbody purse, and a couple chunky statement rings. All in all, I was comfortable enough to stay relaxed and enjoy living in the moment with these quaint country Southerners, bless their hearts.
Except for the hillbilly woman with six heinous, ill-behaved offspring that pushed their way into our space and acted obnoxious throughout the parade… That bunch can fuck right off.
You’ll find more Torrid plus size OOTD’s in Fat Fashion!
