Today’s Throwback Thursday photos were created all the way back in March, 2008. Holy shit, I’m showing my age.
A Chubby Punk Girl
Back in my oddly satisfying 20’s, when my hair was one step away from totally black, with a little swipe of hot pink in there. Kinda had that alternative thing starting. Living the party lifestyle to the best ability of a small-town girl… But I digress.
A friend from the UK suggested I throw together a chubby punk girl look. Now, I appreciate and admire a good punk look. But I’m not typically one to go over the top with statement accessories. The results were… interesting… to say the least!
I remember being pretty excited about shooting photos around this time because I finally had access to professional photography equipment and a plain white backdrop. (I also remember having to starch the shit out of that fabric, it was such a pain.) I’d accumulated a big stash of accessories and doo-dads after hitting the Claire’s outlet store in Fremont, Indiana. I believe all of these pieces came from their ten-for-five sales.
(Can you believe back in those days, Claire’s Outlets had the whole back end of the store devoted to clearance? Everything was fifty cents! Yeah, you could basically go nuts in there.)
For this shoot, I just grabbed whatever punk-ish things I had and layered them on. Fingerless gloves, cuffs, skull-print scarves, destroyed mini skirt…
The whole outfit seemed pretty mismatched and ridiculous, but it gave the photos personality. Because, after all, what is punk? Promoting freedom of individuality and appreciation for alternative expression, right?
Throwback Thursday’s a riot. I’m having fun going through old stuff. Join me again soon for another (you’ll find them in My Life).
